Optomap Retinal Imaging
20/20 was the first optometry store in the world to offer Optomap retinal imaging as part of its standard eye examinations.
Since then, other companies have realised that Optomap in is the most thorough way to analyse a patient’s retina and check for problems.
However, we continue to be the largest user of Optomap worldwide and offer it free as part of our standard eye exams.
What is Optomap Retinal Imaging
Optomap retinal imaging uses a camera that gives optometrists a 200 degree view of the back of the patient’s eye. This gives a much better picture of the retina than conventional cameras, which most opticians still use.
What are the Benefits of Optomap Retinal Imaging
Optomap retinal imaging offers a number of important benefits including:
- A wide field view of the retina which cannot be achieved with conventional cameras
- A permanent record of your retina for future comparison
- An easy and non-invasive process
- Early detection of eye diseases and disorders
How Does Optomap Retinal Imaging Work
At 20/20 Optical Store we offer Optomap retinal imaging as part of our standard eye exams. This means that all of our patients have access to the most thorough eye examinations possible.
When we use Optomap retinal imaging we ask the patient to look through a scanning instrument at a green spot surrounded by a red outer circle. When the patient sees that the circle has become red, the Optomap photograph is taken.
It takes less than a second to take an Optomap photograph of the back of your eye.
The optometrist then analyses the photograph to check for any eye problems.
How Much Does Optomap Retinal Imaging Cost
Most other Optomap providers in the UK charge around £25 for Optomap retinal imaging.
However we include it free of charge as part of our standard eye exams.
