What Types Of Spectacle Frames Are Available?
Frames can be made out of metal (pure or alloys), plastics or both. Some designs are fully rimmed and others are partially rimmed. Partially rimmed styles are also known as supra-frames. They generally have no rim along the lower edge of the frame. Every conceivable shape has been tried and at 20-20 you are bound to find something that suits your taste.
20-20 Optical Store offers one of the largest frames selections to suit every customer's needs. To get a taste of some of the top designer brands that 20-20 offers, check out spectacle frames listed by designer brand.

Which Frame Style Will Suit My Face?
It is important that you buy spectacle frames that suit your face comfortably and stylishly. Our excellent 20-20 dispensing team will do everything in their power to ensure that you feel comfortable with the decision you have made on your frames.
As a basic guide on frame shape, if your face is round or square it is wise to stay away from round or square frames as these will emphasize this feature. Oval or triangular faces can wear most shapes quite well. Refer to the following list for specific details regarding facial structure and the correct frames.
WELL FORMED CHEEKS:
Take care not to choose too deep a frame as the frame should rest on your nose, not your cheeks.
PLUS-POWERED PRESCRIPTION:
You will want to avoid the visibility of the bags underneath your eyes, so try to choose a smaller frame.
PROMINENT EYEBROWS:
You may want to avoid partially rimmed frames where the upper part emphasizes the brow line.
HIGH NOSE BRIDGES:
Individuals with high nose bridges will do well to choose frames with more vertical depth or plastic frames with keyhole (deeper) nose bridges.
LOW NOSE BRIDGES:
Those with low nose bridges must choose frames with nose pads that allow the frame to vault over rather than slide off the nose.
CLAUSTROPHOBIA:
If you feel claustrophobic when you wear spectacles, then choose a rimless frame for more freedom.
HEAVY THICK LENSES:
For high prescriptions, the lense can sometimes be thicker and heavier than normal. It is wise to choose the smallest frames, because the bigger the frame the heavier and thicker the lenses.
If you are concerned about the thickness of your lenses, please speak with us about all the latest options available. It is now quite possible to have a very thin and light lens in even fairly high prescriptions.
SMALL FACES:
Choose titanium metal frame for they are the lightest and strongest metal available, and are 100% allergy proof. Do not choose frames with temples that are far from the outer rim of the frame as these will emphasize a narrow face. Always choose a frame with the smallest rim possible.
LARGE FACES:
Remember that all of our frames can be adjusted to fit the size of your face. Don't be afraid to tell your optometrist or frames dispenser exactly how you feel with your new frames. We want to make sure that you are comfortable and happy with your frames no matter how long it will take for us to make them exactly how you would like them.

Rimless Frames
Rimless frames are not advised if the lenses have to be made out of glass. Glass is very fragile in a rimless design and the lenses will inevitably chip and break.
If you have an extremely high amount of astigmatism where the lens positioning is of paramount importance, it may be wiser to invest in a fully rimmed frame.
Should your spectacles be on and off constantly and thrown about at random, rimless designs would not be the typical choice considering they can chip more easily. It would be better to choose a fully rimmed frame, preferably with spring-loaded sides.

Allergy Free Frames
Can I still choose a metal frame if I have metal allergies? Of course you can! Titanium, gold and silver frames are available at 20-20, all of which are 100% allergy free.
Most people who suffer from metal allergies are allergic to nickel based frames. If the only frame you like is nickel-based, then ask if the arms can be plastic coated to prevent your skin from reacting. The nose bridge area must be raised sufficiently to ensure that the lower rim of the frame does not touch your cheeks. If all else fails, choose a plastic frame instead.

Varifocal Glasses
Ask your 20-20 dispenser to indicate the smallest size frame you can choose for your prescription before you start looking for varifocal glasses. Compact varifocals now exist, which allow us to use much smaller frames than before. Varifocals are constantly being upgraded into new styles and selections. They can also be tailor made in order to fit the customer's needs and wants out of their choice of varifocals.
